New! Java Support (including BlackBerry) - Beta Release
A Java version of FreeCaddie is now available. It is currently an unsigned
midlet which means you will see messages about using location services (GPS) or
using airtime (to download course files). It should run on any phone that can
run Java midlets (including BlackBerries) and supports the location API (JSR
179).
GPS
Your phone must have its GPS enabled to use FreeCaddie. This is likely to be
something you must enable through your service provider. FreeCaddie requires
GPS access to work. If your phone does not have its GPS enabled you may be able
to use a bluetooth GPS receiver.
Airtime Usage
The Java version uses airtime
to download course data. A course file is quite small (usually about 10K). The advantage of
this is that it is much easier to access a course file. Use the "Get Course"
option on the menu to enter your location, then select from a list of available courses in
the surrounding area. If you don't see a course you are interested in, use the
Course Creator
to create it!
Beta Release
This version of FreeCaddie should be considered a beta release. Known issues:
- User configurable button is not functional yet.
- Application is not signed; "Untrusted application" notices will appear.
- Course files are not saved.
Installation
Probably the easiest way to install is by using the browser on your device. The
button below downloads a Java JAR file (installer).
